II. GAME RULES

Tournament of Champions’ Volley Fest wants to encourage as much play and learning. To do so, most fouls will be overlooked unless it is clearly flagrant or is a recurring foul (ex. Lifts, doubles, backrow attack violation, footfaults, etc.).

  1. Number of players: Game will be played 6v6
  2. Contacts:
    1. Each team is allowed three contacts to send the ball over the net.
    2. A player cannot touch the ball with two consecutive contacts.
    3. A touch off a block does not count as one of the three contacts.
  3. Friendly Scrimmage: A minimum of two (2) sets will be played in each match. Matches will be best of three (3) with rally scoring. The first two (2) sets will be played to 25 points (win by 2 points, cap at 30 points) and the third set, if necessary, will be played to 15 points (win by 2, cap at 20). This is a guaranteed match that does not affect TOC points.
  4. Bracket Play (Single Elimination): A minimum of two (2) sets will be played in each match. Matches will be best of three (3) with rally scoring. The first two (2) sets will be played to 25 points (win by 2 points, cap at 30 points) and the third set, if necessary, will be played to 15 points (win by 2, cap at 20). Winners will advance in their division’s bracket.
  5. Rotations: Serving team rotates prior to serving (except for first serve of the set). All teams must follow a serving order. A player is not allowed to serve more than once within 6 rotations. A player can not play more than three consecutive rotations in the front or back row.
  6. Serving (Underhand or Overhand):
    1. Each player will have to serve no closer than half court (15 feet from the net). This will be up to the referees’ and coaches’ discretion. Coaches are asked to challenge their players to serve from their maximum distance.
    2. If a player has 3 successful consecutive serves from serving in the court, they will be asked to serve behind the endline. *This rule resets every first serve for each player.
    3. Players can not catch a tossed serve as this will count as a serving attempt and a point will be rewarded to the other team.
  7. Boundaries:
    1. Boundary lines mark the perimeter of the court. The end lines mark the length of the court, and the sidelines to mark the width of the court.
    2. The Attack line (10 footline) is the line that separates the front court (the area near the net) and the back court(the area between the attack line and end line).
  8. Substitutions: Free legal substitutions are allowed with no cap on substitutions. Even though there are no minimum playing time restrictions, we encourage coaches to rotate all players into the game. No Liberos*
